Helpful Information
FAQs
How long does the examination/assessment take?
The complete assessment typically takes approximately 30-60 minutes to complete. The exact duration can vary depending on individual circumstances and the specific tests required.
What do I need to bring to my appointment?
Photographic identification (e.g., passport or driving licence). – Your glasses or contact lenses if you wear them, along with your current optical prescription. – A list of any medications you are currently taking (including dosages). – Any relevant medical reports or letters from specialists concerning existing health conditions.
A full bladder for a urine sample on arrival – Comfortable clothing suitable for a physical fitness test (Chester Step Test/ Queens step test).
Is a wind turbine medical the same as a working at heights medical?
No, while a wind turbine medical incorporates all the components of a standard working at heights medical, it is a more comprehensive assessment. It includes additional tests and evaluations specific to the risks of the wind energy sector, such as fitness for work in confined spaces and remote locations, and often adheres to the standards set by the Global Wind Organisation (GWO).
Can I have an OEUK medical instead of a wind turbine medical?
An OEUK (formerly OGUK) medical is designed for the offshore oil and gas industry and is not a direct substitute for a wind turbine medical. While there are some overlapping components, the wind turbine medical addresses different industry-specific standards (e.g., GWO) and risks. You must have the specific medical required by your employer and the site operator.
Can I pass a wind turbine medical with existing medical conditions?
Yes, it is possible to pass a wind turbine medical with a pre-existing medical condition. The key consideration is whether the condition is well-managed and does not pose a risk to your safety or the safety of others in the workplace. Each case is assessed individually based on the specific condition, its stability, and the nature of your duties.
How long is a wind turbine medical certificate valid for?
A wind turbine medical certificate is typically valid for two years from the date of issue.
